Project management, under command

You set the heading.

The Ship keeps the log, runs the numbers and reports back. You give the orders.

Good morning, Captain is a project manager you command, not a list you tend. One mission on the viewscreen. Three objectives a watch. A brief every morning and a log every night.

DOC-08

Standing orders

The software has opinions about how work gets done. These are the eight it enforces.

  1. SO-01

    One heading.

Exactly one mission is on the viewscreen. Changing heading is a deliberate order, and the Ship logs it. There is no all-projects dashboard.

  2. SO-02

    Three objectives a watch.

A watch is 90 minutes and holds three objectives. The Ship refuses a fourth and offers to queue it.

  3. SO-03

    Orders are verbs.

“Draft the launch email”, not “Launch email”. Every objective starts with a verb and names its finish line.

  4. SO-04

    Every order is acknowledged.

Nothing changes silently. The Ship confirms each order in one line and names what it changed.

  5. SO-05

Red alert is rare and loud.

One at a time. It takes the top of the screen until you acknowledge it and assign a way out.

  6. SO-06

    Nothing drifts silently.

An objective untouched for three watches is marked adrift. Recommit it or strike it. Striking is honorable.

  7. SO-07

The Ship speaks first twice a day.

The morning brief and the stand-down. Otherwise it answers when hailed. No nudges, no streaks, no confetti.

  8. SO-08

    The log is the record.

Every day closes with a log entry: what shipped, what is adrift, the heading for tomorrow. Corrections are new entries.
